What’s the same?

The B58 3.0T I6
382 hp
368 lbft
But TBH the engines aren;t the same BECAUSE the Supra isn’t mild hybrid

The auto is the same
Can’t get manual in the M340i
The manual in the Supra is better than any manual in a BMW today

The Supra interior is BMW but more F80 generation
Although the door handles are G chassis it seems

That’s actually kind of it since we have the manual - if the Supra was the auto it would have a lot more in common

Last thing both cars have in common is that they’ve both handsome…



What’s different

The manual obviously
Plz let Toyota develop all BMW manuals from now on
Proper good

The Supra is RWD vs xDrive in the BMW
Of course you can GET a RWD M340

The diff
The auto Supra gets the M Sport diff
And the manual car gets something similar but it’s be smoothed out
The manual diff doesn’t BITE or LOCK like the auto’s
So you can go sideways more naturally and not spin

Wheels & tires
Both 19 in wheels
But 225s SQUARE on the BMW…barf
Kumho Ecsta PS91
Supra has 255 up front & 275 at the rear

Curb weight
BMW ~3950
Supra ~3400
So the Supra is around 500 lbs LIGHTER

Unfortunately, the timing didn’t work out to actually set a lap time with the Supra BUT for all the reasons listed above, there’s no doubt in my mind that the Supra would be quicker

Which would make sense because that would then put it right on par with Mustang GT PP but also a Lexus RCF Track Edition…

Daily Driving
BMW - we’ve talked about it, mine is stiff but the Kumhos have helped with the ride.
The gearbox is smooth, the cabin is isolated, the exhaust does get a little annoying, it’s easy to get in and out of

Supra - rides very sports car even though it has adaptive dampers it’s stiff everywhere (not bad, just stiff).
Ingress and egress isn’t always the easiest, but it’s quieter, steering is lighter and easier
Suspension is stiff but very livable, soaks ups bumpers better than one would expect
Sharp and darty, steering is very precious and pointed
Visability,great headroom but terrible visibility C pillar is tragic
Fed up they didnt fix the wind noise, for 2 pieces of plastic that probably cost 10 dollars mold inject is ridiculous
The back end lets you play a bit even with traction on which is nice
6 speed manual is very good, nice clutch engagement point


MPG
BMW - mine has the mild hybrid so it gets crazy fuel economy but it’s rated at 25 mpg
Supra - the auto is rated at 25 and the manual drops to 21


Styling
Talk about it*
But both handsome I’d say…[handsome plug]
Supra still feels more hot wheelie, fake vents make me slightly embarrassed to get in, and you see them every time, opening the door stepping into the car, painful

Cargo/Practicality
Obviously…
useability is useless. I’ve never found myself wanting a center console until this car…
Where tf do I grab the trunk from?



Cabin design and materials
BMW - clean, if not kinda boring design, but good mix of buttons and screens
Supra - design is clean, I like the seats better, but the tablet style screen aint it
I dont like how its angled, prefer the m340 or x3m40



Tech
The Supra software is getting pretty old now
New BMWs are on iDrive 8.5 or 9 or whatever
The Supra software is 2, if not 2.5 gens old
It still works well but it’s old
Supra is missing 360 camera, it has 360 sensors though
Digital cluster doesn’t give you as much info
Center screen also gives you less
Safety suite is equal here
Can spend like 2k for upgraded safety in Supra, but not for manual**


Price
BMW
Starts 59,600 for xDrive (2 grand less for RWD)
Supra
Most expensive against its normal competitive set
3.0 starts at 55,400
Go up to 58,550 for the 3.0 Premium (the one you want)
And now we’re RIGHT AT M340 money…wild
