This woman is 109 years old this year and has been waiting for her husband for over 90 years. Before he left, he told her to wait for him. She was only 17 years old when he left. Just 20 days after their marriage.

She waited and waited, years passed and everyone told her he had passed away but she didn't believe them. They told her to remarry, but she refused every offer. She even bring her son to wait by the tree, that is now very big and tall, everyday for her husband.

In 1953, she finally received a letter informing her of her husband's passing and his bravery but all she could say was that "He promised he would return". Even then, she refused to accept that he was indeed dead.

It wasn't until 2019 that while visiting a memorial plaque and someone pointed out his name that she began to accept the reality. She broke down crying and told him that they have great great grandchildren now.

She didn't even have one photo of him since their love story had taken place a long time ago before cameras were widely available and affordable. A local artist created a portrait of her husband for her.

This reminds us of how many innocent lives are affected by the cruelty of the war, all over the world. And just what these soldiers left behind. Their wives, children, parents, siblings, friends, and everything they held dear. Wars are senseless. Let's try to keep peace.

There are countless stories like her's, all over the world. Countless heartbreaks, stories untold, tears shed, and years suffered. Many of them carry the pain through the rest of their lives, even nearly a century later.
