Scaling Heights: Foldable Steps for Roof Access

In this episode of our DIY ambulance conversion series, we install foldable steps on the front of our box to ensure easy access to the roof - for solar panels, vents or the chimney of our Cubic Mini wood stove.

Let’s break it down:

Foldable Galvanized Steel Steps for Durability:
We’ve chosen galvanized steel steps designed for trucks and cars instead of a ladder. These rugged steps can withstand the elements, ensuring longevity and reliability. They will be folded when not in use, reducing drag. And we love the sleek look!

Support Beam Inside the Box:
Inside the ambulance box, we’ve strategically placed a 2x2 aluminium support beam to provide structural integrity and distributes the load evenly, so each step is a reliable foothold, ready to bear the weight of anyone climbing up.

Rivet Nuts:
To secure the support beam to the box, we’ve used rivet nuts. These threaded inserts provide a secure anchor point to also bolt the steps on the outside.

And yes, we still worked under that tarp during bad weather. Sometimes adventure calls, rain or shine!
