This is by far the best circuit I have tried, I have tried many of the circuits from Nikola Tesla's CO Springs Notebook...Many are symmetrical, some are hard to tune and some are not. The ones that are selective and hard to tune are also very efficient...The trade off is in the power dissipated. The easy to tune ones may require lots of current to get power into the other circuit. This is because the system is out of balance. This circuit requires a bifilar choke, a tuning inductor and gas discharge tubes. The capacitors are also necessary for the tight tuning. There is much complexity in this circuit and it must be properly matched so that the whole system is in resonance. I have posted the equations on my website some time ago.

This is kind of like a resonant DC buck converter, with 2 different circuit analysis...one for when the discharge happens and is temporarily shorted, and the other for charging. The impedances change with respect to what circuit configuration exists. The voltage breakdown of the spark is also a key figure. I would recommend getting a bunch of HV HF diodes, a ranges of voltages for gas discharge tubes and a variable inductor. The output is mainly dependent on the conditioning of energy before it even gets to the primary of the tesla type vortex coil...The frequency of the "bursts" from the discharge must be tuned accordingly. The significance of the bifilar choke is that when in a LC system, the phase angle is around -90 degrees no matter what! The LC system seemingly has no inductance, so the phase is kept that of a capacitor, so it can then be balanced by the primary inductance of the vortex coil and tuned with the variable inductor. IF the choke was not bifilar, tuning would be even more selective...not to mention much more frustrating!

The gas discharge tube (GDT) that worked best was for me was 800v...the frequency of the discharge depends mainly on the amount of power delivered from the iron core transformer and the breakdown voltage of the GDT. The lower the voltage breakdown, the faster the spark frequency.
