Another bone chilling morning greeted Srinagar with the mercury dropping to minus 3 degrees Celsius, 2.3 below normal, on Thursday. Several other parts of the Kashmir Valley also recorded sub-zero temperatures.

Locals are coping with the biting cold using age-old traditional methods as daily life continues to pose severe challenges.

Power cuts are adding to their woes, and residents are increasingly worried about how cold it will get when Chillai Kalan begins on December 21.

The 40-day period is known to be the harshest phase of winter in Kashmir.
