PRESS NOTE:- Cheating using fake Pay tm and Google Pay apps 8 accused were apprehended in 4 cases in various police stations of the south zone for cheating shopkeepers with a fake PayTm app. The accused downloaded an app called “payatm spoof”.They enter a store, shop for some items and ask for a bill, they request the bill will be paid via Paytm. They show that the amount is paid via Paytm spoof, which is actually a fake payment, done through the fake app and decamp with the purchased goods. The cashier later learns that the payment is not done and that he was cheated. They have learned about this app through YouTube videos and downloaded the app via the Google play store. Some of the apps have been deleted by Google; however, some apps continue to be available on the Play store. Public, in general, and shopkeepers, particularly, are requested to stay alert about such fake apps and report any such instances immediately to the concerned police authorities.
