The Indian government last month granted permission to the UK-based University of Southampton to establish a campus in India. The campus will come up in Gurugram. In an interview with ThePrint, Professor Andrew Atherton, Vice-President International and Engagement, University of Southampton, and Rittika Chanda Parruck, Director Education India, British Council, said that the University is expected to start functioning from August 2025. It will launch an official website announcing the admission process and other details in October. The University will hire faculty globally. He said that the University will fix the fee structure keeping in mind the Indian context, and it will be lower than what students would pay for any university in the UK or the US. The University will provide merit based and need based scholarships.
