In June 2016, Leonel Du Creaux, a 26-year-old Swiss hiker, mysteriously vanished while climbing Mount Semeru in East Java, Indonesia. Accompanied by Alice, a traveler from France, the duo took an unofficial route to the summit—never registering with local authorities. After Alice gave up midway due to exhaustion, Leonel continued alone… and was never seen again.

Despite massive search efforts involving local SAR teams, drones, and even help from the Swiss government, Leonel was never found. His disappearance remains one of the most puzzling mountaineering mysteries in Indonesia.
