Jack Haines takes you on board the all-new Greenline 42 for a detailed yacht tour of this 13m (42ft) hybrid-ready cruiser from Greenline Yachts.
In this YachtBuyer review, he explores the twin 250hp Yanmar diesel version, with hybrid drive available, and looks at how the 42 replaces the long-standing 39 and 40 in the range. Positioned as a comfortable, year-round owner-operator yacht, it builds on Greenline’s electric and solar heritage that dates back to 2008.
On deck, the 42 focuses on usability. Buyers can retain the traditional open transom or opt for a hydraulic bathing platform rated at 150-200kg (330 to 441lbs), which allows a tender to be carried without relying on loose cockpit furniture. Fixed seating and a proper dining-height table create a practical aft social space, while the rising galley window connects cockpit and saloon. Forward, an optional sunbathing package adds cushions and canopy protection, and high bulwarks with secure side decks support short-handed handling.
Inside, the saloon features a split galley with cooking to port and refrigeration to starboard, so movement between cockpit and helm remains clear. Drop-down windows allow cross ventilation, while a full-height fridge option changes the configuration. The dinette converts into additional berths, bringing total sleeping capacity to six across two cabins and saloon. At the raised helm, twin widescreen Simrad displays, a full-height side door and integrated climate controls define the latest-generation layout.
Below deck, the Greenline 42 offers a twin-berth guest cabin and a forward owner’s cabin with hull glazing cut-outs and a skylight for natural light at bed level. Buyers can choose between a second bathroom for added privacy or convert that space into expanded storage or a vanity area.
With diesel performance reaching around 25 knots and a hybrid option capable of silent cruising at 6 knots for approximately 20 nautical miles, this luxury motor yacht suits owners who prioritise comfort, autonomy and manageable systems in a modern cruising yacht.
