Forbidden - Live Circa 1988 Part 1 of 2

This video was the first time I had ever seen a thrash band play live. I was about 16 and lived in the small and remote country of New Zealand. A late night music show had appeared called "Metal Primer", and it was created by a guy called Bruce Rae who had been overseas and had seen the thrash bands emergence and popularity. He played "Eyes of Glass" by Forbidden from this very video. I actually recorded it to VHS at the time, but inevitably lost it somewhere in the past 22 years.

Bruce Rae began Grunt Records, and thanks to him, Thrash metal arrived on our distant shores. Bruce passed away 5th October last year. I can guarantee he is fondly remembered by all middle aged NZ metalheads.

The first album I found in the stores was "Among the Living" by Anthrax. Pretty soon after, Metallica, Slayer etc poured in and new cover bands sprung up everywhere. No-ones set was complete without songs like The Four Horsemen, or Madhouse......

I found this video a few days ago and was overjoyed to find this little bit of nostagia. I have uploaded it to preserve it, because it is pretty rare. I remember headbanging in my bedroom after school to this one. Forbidden is still in my music collection - "Twisted into Form" is a masterpiece.

The entire video has live concerts featuring Death, Dark Angel and Forbidden, There are some other bands on it as well, but I was never really into them. I will upload them for historical preservation - particularly the Death clips, as Chuck of course died tragically on December 13, 2001 from operable cancer.

So, thanks to Bruce for introducing me to Death, Dark Angel, Megadeth, Slayer and Forbidden. RIP.
