MORFEUS arkitekter collaborated with Astri and Henrik Botten Taubøll to bring their family home at Sorbyhaugen 24, Oslo, to life.
The project was a complete transformation of a 1933 functionalist house, combining modern design with local heritage in the beautiful Ullern district, overlooking the Oslo Fjord and surrounded by tall pine trees.

The original narrow floor plan was transformed into a flowing open-plan living space, utilizing a central core for the kitchen, bathrooms, and communal areas.
Vertical openings from the ground floor provide connectivity between the previously separate floors, creating a sense of space despite the limited ceiling height.

Small windows were replaced by floor-to-ceiling windows, opening the home to the stunning views and surroundings.
Colorful details and elements typical of functionalism were revived with a modern twist, while sustainability was a key focus—reusing original materials such as floor joists, chimneys, and fireplaces, and adding insulation to meet current energy standards.
