The rocky trail up Mt. Dana in Yosemite during August. This includes a short look at the trail up and the summit. There is a summit register at top, which is filled with a notebook and other odd items. The hike is 3 miles each way, gaining a total of about 3000 ft. for a change of 1000 ft. per mile. This is a steep climb, and unacclimated hikers may find themselves a bit short of breath, especially during the last mile of the hike.

The trail or trails are difficult to follow at certain points, but the Tioga entrance station and the peak are usually in sight so it is difficult to get lost.

The trail starts near the Tioga Yosemite entrance, so it is best to park in the first or second lot after entering Yosemite. The trail is marked little or no signage, but there is any easy-to-follow foot path for much of the hike.

There are no water sources on this hike (aside from snow), so pack plenty to drink. It is also strongly recommended to avoid this hike when it is raining or there is a potential for rain, as lightning strikes are a frequent occurrence on Mt. Dana.
