In this video, I showcase the very first bot I ever built during Hackathon 2018 — a Reddit bot designed to automatically find Amazon product links in popular Reddit comments and reply with an affiliate link. The idea was simple: every time someone clicked through and purchased, I’d earn an Amazon affiliate commission. But instead of keeping the money, 100% of the proceeds go to the American Cancer Society, in honor of my aunt who passed away from cancer.
I walk through how the bot works, including:
Scanning thousands of subreddits for Amazon links
Posting affiliate links with product names, prices, and info
Avoiding duplicate posts and self-replies
The efficiency gains from account growth and faster posting
The motivation behind building something with real-world impact
This was my first real project outside of homework assignments, and it sparked my passion for coding, automation, and using technology for good.
