From October 9, 2021: Fall is in full swing here in the mid-Atlantic area. Air temperatures are in the low to mid 70's. You put a jacket on in the morning and have to take it off in the afternoon just to put It back on that evening. It is a terrific time to get out and go fishing! I drove up to the Wye Mills Community Lake just across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge for a couple of hours today to see what was biting. Upon arriving I saw that the lake was in a cyanobacteria bloom. The bloom had been blown to the shoreline around the lake so there was plenty of open water to fish. Using small jigs with a YUM trailer, I was able to catch an assortment of fish, including bluegill, largemouth and bullhead catfish. I also did my best to leave as much of the algae there and to not transport it back to my home waters. Hopefully you do your part to not transport vegetation from one area to another.

Tackle Log: 5' ultralight Vortex rod (by Gander Mountain) paired with a Shimano Sienna size 1000 reel with 8# hi-vis monofilament line with a 1/32 oz jig with "Christmas tree" YUM grub.

Conditions: air temperatures in the low 70's, wind (about 10 mph) out of the east, water clarity (outside of the algae bloom) 2 ft.
