Ruined Kingdom Dragon boss + Ruined Kingdom moons - Super Mario Odyssey walkthrough

Welcome to our 11th Super Mario Odyssey kingdom walkthrough video, taking on the dark might of the dragon boss Lord Of Lightning in our Ruined Kingdom moons walkthrough. You’ll get to Ruined Kingdom once you have completed Luncheon Kingdom, which will cue up a cut scene with Bowser introducing his new champion, The Lord Of Lightning, and blasting the Odyssey out of the sky. When you crash land in the Ruined Kingdom, you’ll find the broken down shambles of a gothic castle, which is separated by a void. You can explore the first area to find a few coins and a moon underneath the main path, but to begin with the main job is just making it up to the top of the Kingdom to face the huge dragon that is The Lord Of Lighting.

You’ll do this by taking the electricity wires up between the voids and it really doesn’t take too much effort to get to the top for the lightning dragon boss showdown. You’ll find it clinging to the ruined castle, firing electrically charged zigzagging wheels at you, so you’ll need to avoid these to make it through to its second attack wave. This will see it smashing its head down into the ground and sending out rippling crackles of electricity in your direction, so you’ll need to jump over these quickly to stay safe.

After this, you can jump up on its snout, use Cappy to pull out the protector pins and give it a ground pound to put in your first hit of the boss fight. Once you’ve done this it’s repeat the same phases as it done the first time around, so just repeat the same steps above to get in the second hit. There are more spinning electricity disks to contend with, and even more in the final wave, so you’ll need to move fast to get out of their way. You’ll probably need two rounds to dislodge the final set of chain pins from the dragon’s snout, so keeping as many hearts as possible until the last moment is really important.

When you get in the final ground pound, that’ll finish off the Lord Of Lightning boss, giving you a multi-moon for your trouble. That’s more than enough to get the Odyssey back into the air, but if you want to take your Ruined Kingdom moons tally up a little, there are two to get from the rocket next to the now exhausted and defeated dragon boss, which you can see us do in our walkthrough video.
