Department of Mechanical Engineering – Student Research Showcase

In this video, we proudly present the research journey of one of our final-year B.Tech student, John Korfeh, specializing in Thermal Engineering. What began as a mandatory capstone project has transformed into a fully funded research initiative worth over $50,000 USD, guided by Dr. Bhavesh Kanabar and supported by Dr. Alan Williams (UK).

🌍 Research Focus:
This project aims to answer a bold and critical question:

Can we generate reliable and sustainable energy using only natural forces—the sun and the wind—without traditional photovoltaic panels, turbines, or costly imported infrastructure?

With the vision of developing accessible, cost-effective, low-maintenance energy solutions, this research is particularly significant in addressing global challenges of energy inequality, especially in rural and low-resource regions.

💡 Why It Matters:
Coming from Liberia, the student shares a deeply personal motivation based on lived experiences of energy poverty, where lack of electricity directly affects:
