NATURE & CHILDREN are meant to be together 🌲

I think we all innately know this, but our modern way of life tends to get in the way 😔

Some have easy access to the outdoors and others do not. Just remember that “the outdoors” doesn’t have to be a park, beach or forest 🌳

It can be a small garden - hey even walking outside in a town offers more variety than being indoors 😅

Studies show that children who spend time outside speak more and speak more complex - they use more descriptive language 🤩

This is thought to be due to the wide variety of sensory input to the brain via scents, touch, proprioception, vision, vestibular and sound 🧠

Combine this with being active (motor activity) and it’s a seriously boosted learning environment for the growing brain inside your little child 👶🏼

Here’s 4 facts clearly observed when kids are outside:

(1) Children used language to refer to their play situation 🪵

(2) Children used language to refer to the elements of their physical play environment ☘️

(3) Compared to the non-nature-based playground, children talked more about the objects of the nature-based playground 🍁

(4) Children talked more about science and math concepts 🧬

The question then becomes - “Why are we not including more outdoor activity based learning” in our pre-schools and schools? 🤯

Especially when statistics are showing us that children in the west are spending less time outside each year 😔
