This is an alternative to the common spray foam that comes out of a can. My friend Willie told me about oakum caulking in boat building to keep out water. We are almost 6 months in and no water has leaked into the house through the gaps where my hemp and pine tar(oakum) caulking is. All the window sills have a 6 degree bevel and all the windows except the west facing one are flangless.
