The new kid on the gospel block, SEMAJE, is really making a name for himself in the contemporary gospel genre. No newcomer in the field has had a better year. His neo-soul remake of Bill Withers’ classic gem “Lovely Day,” his Bop “You,” and his soulful ballad “I Rely,” have gifted him with over 5 million digital streams within a calendar year, that is impressive. For his new release, the Detroit native brings a millennial funk to his catchy reprise of The Voices of Unity’s 2007 cut “Watch Me Praise Him.” The original featured Deitrick Haddon and Damita Haddon handling the lead vocals. Here, SEMAJE sings both parts. Producer Shajuan Andrews programs the track with a new age zeal that is both current yet a nod to the spirit of the original.
