That’s why we make icon workshops, to teach face-to-face, and this time we announce an Extended Icon Painting Workshop. We made it for iconographers with a serious approach, and here is what we have to offer:

It’s nice to write icons, using tracing paper and to be proud of your results, but it’s a wrong point, - these results are not yours, and most likely they will be very formal.

To make image work, to build it as a powerful tool for the visual sermon it needs preparation and a number of researches, so we will begin from drawing.

To find out, what we want to “say” in our icon, we will study different old icons of Crucifixion and just draw them for the first five days.

Besides, we plan to draw lots of hands and feet to learn their anatomical structure. We will do the most common gestures, including both types of blessing, and the feet in different positions.

As always, there will be some lectures with slideshows and discussions on most serious problems of contemporary iconography.

The second 5-days session will start from color research, - time for creativity and inspiration. Then we make the final drawing on the board and begin painting.

We plan the boards to be in shape of a cross so that later the finished images could be used as real icons of Crucifixion.
