Cape Lookout, NC is a 56 mile strip of barrier islands located on the eastern shores of the Outer Banks, NC . Only accessible by boat, the south core banks offers 15 miles of primitive camping right on the beach. We decided to explore the area and test our skills for three days overlanding in our H2 HUMMER.

We began our trip in Davis at the Camp Cabins ferry service.The Ferry prices varied based on the number of passengers and vehicle size and reservations are encouraged. We made our reservations a week before and paid $144 for a round trip ticket. From there we boarded our ferry for a 40 minute ride across the bay.

In addition to the ferry cost there is a separate beach driving permit required that we had to purchase from the National Park Service and is checked upon arrival to the island.
