Описание к видео Add an Overlay on Top of a Sped Up Video Clip in OpenShot

I mostly make coding videos. But every so often. I create a video that explores some of the behind-the-scenes stuff I do to help with producing my videos. That playlist is called "How the Sausage is Made". This is the first "meta" video from the series where I am making a video about editing a video in the playlist itself.

In this video, I take a long video export process and speed it up. That serves as the background layer. In the lower right-hand corner where the video of speaker is located, I created a second video that is roughly one-eighth the length of the export. The idea is that I talk over the export with a pitch for some of my other videos.

I've done something like this once before in my video about installing Ubuntu 24.04. That takes even longer, so I think I sped the background video one up to 16x on that one.

An important thing to keep in mind while watching this is DO NOT try to drag anything on the video preview. It will cause OpenShot to freak out. Use the effects, video properties, and right click options.

After cropping the top layer video, we fudge with the timing at the end of the bottom video a bit to make them line up.

This video covers:
0:00:00 Introduction
0:01:56 Clip the bottom layer video at the point where it will be sped up
0:02:32 Import the overlay video, and add to the timeline, making sure it has a higher track number than the bottom video.
0:04:24 Speed up the bottom video of the export by 8x
0:05:04 DON'T DO THIS: An attempt to drag the corner in the Video Preview leads to untold suffering
0:05:52 Try to remediate by deleting the clip, saving the project and re-importing the overlay clip. It gets so bad that I need to force quit.
0:07:41 Bring OpenShot back up and re-re-import the overlay clip.
0:08:24 Use Crop from the Effects menu to crop the overlay clip to the lower right corner with the Left and Top properties.
0:09:57 Fumble through adjusting the timing on the last couple seconds of the bottom clip to be 16x and try to match the overlay timing
0:11:25 Test the clip to ensure it's working as intended
0:12:22 Clip the remaining second or so off of the end
0:12:36 Concluding remarks
