MP Tony Vaughan has been protesting about sea sewage around Folkestone with gusto for years, both before and after becoming MP. I genuinely respect that work and I’m not taking anything away from his efforts to bring attention to the issue. It matters and he’s put real energy into it.

But at the same time, when I raise serious concerns about tenants’ rights, unsafe housing conditions, and the council’s abusive housing enforcement policy, I’m ignored.

I’ve asked Tony Vaughan many times to challenge Folkestone and Hythe District Council over the way tenants are treated. I’ve provided evidence, reports, and examples of people being put at risk or made homeless because enforcement duties aren’t being followed.

Instead of engagement, he blocked me on social media.

I wasn’t abusive. I wasn’t rude. I simply asked him to challenge the council in the same way he challenges Southern Water.

So I find it strange that he can protest about sewage with such gusto, but won’t use that same energy to stand up for tenants facing dangerous housing conditions.

Sewage gets action. Tenants don’t.
