Rav4 Hybrid Prime Cablegate High Voltage Wiring problem. This is a MUST READ, as it might affect YOU

Howdy Happy Campers,

JT here and it’s another fine day out here in SW Oklahoma. No need to waste time showing you my ugly mug, but As always, I just want to pass on to other Toyota Rav4 Prime owners like myself and even just Rav4 Hybrid owners in general this particular issue that "COULD"...affect your vehicle. Just a short video here.

I want to keep my Prime as long as possible...but this headline says it all. "High Voltage Cable Big Corrosion Problem". That came from the link down below.

With probably a Gazzillion videos out there about the Fantastic features of owning a Rav4 Prime, no one wants to talk bad about the Prime.

Keep in mind, I'm not a mechanic or a rocket scientist. I haven't seen alot of posts regarding these specifically for the Rav4 Prime and no way for me to really validate how bad it will affect the Prime vehicle. So Remember I said “could” affect you.

Basically there’s a very possible scenario that might happen to your Rav4 Hybrid and/or Prime, should the HV area, Cablegate become extremely corroded. To put it bluntly, your hybrid system can fail. Seems that there is a design flaw. Either hidden or not sufficiently “Voiced by Owners” to warrant a “Toyota permanent fix”.

According to what I have read, if the vehicle has less than 3 years or 36,000miles (meaning out of it’s Basic Warranty) and the problem is discovered, it can warrant a replacement, but if it is outside the basic warranty, then the cost comes out of the customer’s pockets and that my friends can be between $4000-$6000 to fix. So take note. If you think this is nonsense, by all means, you don’t have to listen, but if You’re still listening..then listen and read on.

Again, I’m not here to Knock down the Prime…it is one super efficient vehicle and I really enjoy mine and glad I bought it. I’m in the Oklahoma Area, meaning pretty flat and really not much of salty, corrosion causing junk on the road during the winter months to probably affect my Prime, but for you happy campers out there on the East coast or areas where they just saturate the road with salt, brine, sand, whatever to help drivers on the road….it will escalate the deteriotation and corrosion of the Cablegate area where the high voltage is located and your hybrid system will start malfunctioning. Why? Well when you look at it, it’s nothing more than plastic, it’s underneath, it can collect and catch water, freeze up and what happens to things when it freezes up? Yup it..expands, therefore it’ll collect, corrode, and yes can ruin all that nice orangy looking electrical connectors.

I don't mean to scare or alarm you. Just bringing it up to your attention that as part of your maintenance routine whether it's once a month, once every 6 months or a year, you should put that particular area under observation for any signs that it might be headed towards something unpleasant.

So how do you tell. Simple. If it's not organgy looking anymore???? Well...Danger Will Robinson, Danger!

From what I have seen and read, it seems that alot of these issues have been surfacing in the Canadian province. Not really sure why, but have seen some post on the Rav4world website and even a few on Facebook. So I can only assume that it WILL eventually become more and more widespread.

Read the articles for yourself and you decide.

Should you go into panic mode? Sell your
Nice Toyota Prime or Rav4 Hybrid now? That's up to you, for about 1/2 an hour I thought about it myself. Then I considered my particular circumstances and came to the following conclusion:
1. Yes there is a Cablegate issue
2. I live in a relatively not heavily
snowed and salted area
3. I keep my Prime Garage kept every night.
4. I do not take my Prime out on the Ponderosa deep sea diving in any
mud pits.
5. Winter here is manageable and not 11 feet high like in the NorthEast
6. And most of all, I maintain and keep an eye out on my Angel.

That's about it, boys and girls. For all I know, within the next year, Toyota might be bombarded by a million customer complaints about this Cablegate issue and actually extend the warranty on it or put something out that Toyota will cover any costs associated with its repair.

Until then, everything that you do...is all...up to you.

OOH...in case you're interested the JBL Speaker replacement video is up next at Bat.

Until then
Thank you for watching, take care, stay safe and God Bless.
