Home of three civilizations in Tuscany - Volterra 🇮🇹 Italy walking tour

Volterra was one of the main city-states of Etruria or ancient Tuscany, and in the Middle Ages it hosted an important lordship that controlled most of the Tuscan hills. Walking through its center means breathing in history, in fact you will be able to see some remains of the Etruscan era, the Roman ruins and the numerous medieval buildings that characterize much of the center.

What makes the city of Volterra famous today, however, are two aspects, in addition to its beauty and history: the processing of alabaster, a particular limestone that is easily found in the surroundings. The entire center is full of shops that create sculptures with this stone and display it in their windows; is a location of the famous Twilight saga. In the second episode, entitled New Moon, the American author Stephenie Meyer, names Volterra as the city where the members of the Volturi clan reside

I did an quick walking tour of ancient and medieval town of Volterra that definitely deserves more and I will absolutely come back for the second walking tour as soon as possible!
