Stumphouse Tunnel - South Carolina Hikes

Описание к видео Stumphouse Tunnel - South Carolina Hikes

Stumphouse Tunnel is an unfinished railroad tunnel cut into Stumphouse Mountain. Stumphouse Mountain Tunnel is the remains of an 1850s attempt to link the port of Charleston to the cities of the Midwest by rail. The Civil War and lack of funds brought the construction to an end.

In 1951 Clemson University bought the tunnel and for many years used it to cure their famous Clemson blue cheese.

Approximately 1/4 mile of the tunnel is open to the public.

As of September 2020 Stumphouse Park Entrance Fee is $5 per vehicle. Stumphouse Park includes Issaqueena Falls so be sure to check out that beautiful waterfall while visiting Stumphouse Tunnel.
