TEXT FORMAT
- Prey for the Gods takes inspiration from a few other games, the most notable and my favourite of all time being Shadow of the Colossus, and I'm gonna reference it a few times in this video. You start the game on a bleak frozen island, with the sole purpose of destroying the godly giants that live there. Each giant has their own weaknesses which must be exploited in order for you to bring them down, but how you do this is up to you. You could run in foolheartedly and hope you can press the dodge button faster than they can smush you. Or you could take the slow and steady route and sneak up to them. On top of this you have a variety of weapons at your disposal such as a bow and arrow, a sword, and a grappling hook, making for some truly epic gameplay!
- Each giant in Prey for the Gods has their own unique look, ranging from an enormous monstrous bird, to a shadowy wraith-like being, at least from what we've seen in the trailers. Looking at the bird in particular, I get a 'creature of death' or 'misfortune' kind of vibe from it, given the raven like appearance and its exposed skull. This also makes me wonder whether these giants are considered gods in their own right, with power over such things as the elements, or are they perhaps minions or avatars to something greater, just like the Colossi were to Dormin in Shadow of the Colossus.
- Unlike Shadow of the Colossus which was just a case of killing each giant, Prey for the Gods will incorporate some survival elements. Remember, you are on a freezing cold island. Your hero isn't going to last long if they don't build a shelter to keep warm or hunt for food. Exploration plays as much a part in Prey for the Gods as the epic battles do. While out foraging you could come across the body of a fallen warrior, carrying better armor and equipment than you currently own. Seeing as weapons can break midfight it's important to salvage what you can when you can. Just don't stay out too long, the weather can change in a flash and you don't want to be caught in a blizzard.
- Now we've talked a bit about the game and its content, let's talk about the developers' Kickstarter goals. So the minimum amount the developers are asking for is $300,000 dollars, and as of writing this, the game is sitting at around $240,000 dollars with just under 7200 backers and 18 days to go. There is potential for some cool extras if they sail past this goal. For example, at $400,000 dollars the game's environment will be expanded to include an underground cave area, and at $600,000 dollars the game will be developed for the PS4 and XBoxOne. Past these stretch goals there is a chance for 3 more bosses on top of the 5 already in the game, so that's pretty cool and gives Prey for the Gods longevity if they hit those targets!
- Let's talk a bit about the developers. Three people with more than thirty years of experience between them have been working their butts off to get this game off the ground. Be prepared for some potentially bad name pronunciations! Brian Parnell, Tim Wiese and Hung-Chien Liao, have worked for various companies on a variety of different games over the years, so they know their stuff. They started part time work on Prey for the Gods way back in 2014, going full time in January 2016 and since then have got the game to about 25% completion.
