While conducting our Advanced Canyoneering Course we had the opportunity to put some of the skills to work in a rescue as a result of a flash flood.
One of our instructors (yeah, I know, shoulda known better). Went for a hike during the rain storm to check out the water falls coming down from the cliffs. He found himself on the other side of the wash after it had flashed and realized it too late to get himself across. We found the ideal location and setup to be able to set up a Traverse line and get him back across before the water got too much, or before he was stuck for hours. This was a great opportunity for the students to see and setup a traverse line and help with a rescue and be able to see it in action outside of just a canyon scenario.
