The story of Mount #Vindhya, who in its jealousy towards Mount #Meru, asked Lord #Shiva for a boon to grow as per his own wishes. However, after being granted the wish, he was blinded by his #greed, trying to become large than the #Mahadev himself. In order to make the mountain realise the error of its ways, Lord Shiva showed it how the entire universe can fit into just one #rudraksh of his, because he is the #Om that was the beginning and the end.

Hence, Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga was established there at the request of Vindhya to remind everyone who comes there of the power of Om. However, #Narad ji was concerned of the power of Om, so Lord Shiva established another Jyotirlinga, #Amleshwar, nearby to balance the energies of Om.
