So, you're up for a bike adventure huh? My answer was, and always will be, ‘fuckin’ oath’. How about a lengthy trip from Kathmandu to Tibet and return in the Himalayas? Sounds easy enough, doesn't it?

As you’ll soon see, I was thrown into a world I could never have expected. An alien place, an unexpected environment and into the epicentre of a maelstrom of suspicious governmental scrutiny. Witnessing people oppressed and downtrodden.

Oh. And sick. Like, I felt I might die sorta sick. Yeah, this video has the flippin’ lot.

Tibet is a forbidden realm. Open only to a select few travellers, and unique in culture and religion, its breathtaking monasteries and religious institutions are defined by magnificent architecture and cultural traditions. Perilously remote and completely isolated by the formidable Himalayan ranges, Tibet offers timeless splendour, challenging travel conditions and breathtaking scenery.

Those that travel here are changed.

People. Something as epically challenging as this is defined by so many elements, large and momentary, incidental and meticulously planned, often entirely unpredictable but the one thing that stands out, amongst myriad happenings, problems, scares and triumphant moments is... The people.

Like prolific world traveller and Iranian expatriate Maral Yazarloo-Pattrick, who stood tall for me when the shite was well and truly in contact with the fan. Who may just have saved my life. Dramatic? You betcha’ I was sick man. Like double sick.

A woman who has faced more adversity than most, has reasons to be bitter, but is optimistic, just, kind and ethical. And who took on the authorities to make sure I received the medicines I desperately needed.

Or like English dirt legend Jasper Campbell, better known as the Scrambler of London. He was new to me and I to him, but the bond built here was rock solid. Why is it that adversity is the greatest friendship foundation of all. And, why do we have to be reminded of it occasionally. Why? Because that’s what the hell hard travel is all about.

So… After all the pain and effort that went into the trip that built this film, I realise how very important it may well be in forging me. I’m different. In a really good way.
