Apong Guan, Penang's Culinary Treasure

A visit to the Apong Guan stall along Burmah Road in George Town, Penang. Mr Uan Cheng Guan, aka Apong Guan, has been selling here for some 55 years. I first interviewed him back in July 2008, when he was already 61 years old. So, by August 2022, when I created this video, he is already 75 years old. Between 2008 and 2022, his apong has risen in price from 30 sen to 80 sen a piece.

Apong Guan is today considered Penang's living culinary treasure. Although his brand is now used on food truck, there is nothing like getting the "real thing". Let's enjoy him while we can.
