Описание к видео ✠ - Heute müßen wir marschieren - ✠ (piano transcription)

Here is a Lied wrote by Kurt Eggers and composed by Klaus Gerwien in the early first half of the 20th century.
The video is made with clips from the German film "Menschen ohne Vaterland" from 1937. The story focuses on Oberleutnant Maltzach, a German army officer who volunteered for the Baltic Freikorps, and on the Russian Baron Fahlen, a former Czarist officer who after the fall of Imperial Russia became a spy for the Bolsheviks in Latvia. While stationed in the free city of Libau, they both fall in love with a girl, Irene Marellus, who was fleeing from Bolshevik troops invading Latvia. Due to a series of unfortunate circumstances for which Baron Fahlen was partly responsible, Irene Marellus becomes a prisoner of the Bolsheviks. It is also for this reason that Baron Fahlen decides to abandon the Bolsheviks to get back to his former self - there's a powerful scene in the film of him looking again at his old portrait as a Czarist cossack officer in full parade uniform. He then asks permission to join the Baltic-German assault against bolsheviks to aid Oberleutnant Maltzach in saving Irene Marellus - he dies during the assault just before seeing Irene safe with Maltzach.
