In today's tasting Wine-Searcher's Wine Director David Allen MW tries a 2019 Pinot Noir From Domaine Rewa in Central Otago's Cromwell Valley - Domaine Rewa Central Otago Pinot Noir, the wine is well-balanced and shows the potential to age.

Domaine Rewa is a New Zealand estate wine producer, located just outside the small town of Pisa Moorings in the Central Otago wine region. Planted in 1997, the estate released the inaugural vintage in 2001.

Today, Phillippa Fourbet is the estate's proprietor, having purchased the 5.5-hectare vineyard in 2010. The property sits on an alluvial terrace with ideal terroir for viniculture.

Fourbet immigrated with husband Yannick to New Zealand from the commune of Anduze in the south of France, a historical area for potteries and clay production. Domaine Rewa now includes onsite pottery for the production of clay amphora pots by Yannick, a craftsman in hand-made Anduze pots.

The Domaine Rewa "The French Potter" Pinot Gris is partially fermented in clay amphora with natural yeast and an extended lees contact of six months. Other wines from the estate include a Chardonnay, a Pinot Noir and a Late Harvest Riesling.

The estate produces over 15,000 bottles each year and has expanded to include an olive grove, orchard, and recently planted trufferie.
