A.. Meristematic Tissue

Characteristics:
Actively dividing cells.
Thin cell walls, dense cytoplasm, and prominent nuclei.
No vacuoles.


Types:
1. Apical Meristem: Found at the tips of roots and shoots; responsible for primary growth (increase in length).

2. Intercalary Meristem: Located at internodes or base of leaves; helps in regrowth and elongation.

3. Lateral Meristem: Found along the sides of stems and roots; responsible for secondary growth (increase in girth). Examples: cambium, cork cambium.


B. Permanent Tissue

Formed from meristematic tissue after differentiation (losing the ability to divide).

Types:
(a) Simple Permanent Tissue: Composed of one type of cell.
1. Parenchyma:
Thin-walled, living cells.
Functions: Storage, photosynthesis (chlorenchyma), buoyancy (aerenchyma).

2. Collenchyma:
Living cells with thickened cell walls (at corners).
Functions: Provides flexibility and mechanical support.

3. Sclerenchyma:
Dead cells with thick lignified walls.
Functions: Provides strength and rigidity.

(b) Complex Permanent Tissue: Composed of more than one type of cell, working together.

1. Xylem:
Components: Tracheids, vessels, xylem parenchyma, and xylem fibers.
Function: Conducts water and minerals.

2. Phloem:
Components: Sieve tubes, companion cells, phloem parenchyma, and phloem fibers.
Function: Transports food (sugar) from leaves to other parts.

3. Secretory Tissue (Specialized)
Glandular tissue involved in secretion of substances like resin, latex, nectar, etc.
