PROS and CONS - Living in Fishers, Indiana!

What is the BEST and WORST parts of living in Fishers, Indiana? Glad you asked! Here's what you need to know:

Fishers, Indiana is a suburb on the northeast side of Indianapolis, and it is an AWESOME city to live in, but there are also some parts that are straight up ANNOYING! Here's what I mean:

5 PROS to living in Fishers, Indiana:

1. School System - Hamilton Southeastern School District (the school district that Fishers sits in) received an "A+" rating on Niche.com, and is ranked in the top 5 best school districts in Indiana.

2. Affordability - Per salary.com the cost of living in Fishers Indiana is 11.2% LOWER than the national average, and in 2019 Money Magazine rated Fishers in the top 3 places to live in the United States.

3. Shopping Opportunities - In almost any direction (usually within 5-25 minutes) you will find various outdoor malls, a fashion mall, outlet mall, IKEA, Target, Meijer, etc.

4. Variety of Restaurants - Fishers is a melting pot of culinary delights! Almost any kind of restaurant you could want probably has a home in or near Fishers, Indiana. Some of our favorites are Four Day Ray, Pearl Street Pizzeria, Samanos Taqueria, the Fishers Test Kitchen, Wild Ginger, and The Roost, just to name a few!

5. 4 seasons - Fishers has a temperate climate, meaning it doesn't get too hot in the summer (highs usually in the 80's), nor awfully cold in the winter (lows usually in the 20's). All four seasons can be enjoyed here year-round!

5 CONS to living in Fishers, Indiana:

1. Traffic - Let's face it, sitting in traffic sucks! With the exponential growth here in Fishers the past 30 years we've had our fair share of traffic issues. That being said, Fishers has been great about widening roads and improving intersections, but that takes me to my next point...

2. Construction - Because Fishers is a growing community, it seems like there is always construction happening on either a road, new buildings, new houses, and anything in-between. But the bright side is that all of the construction is making Fishers a better place to work and live!

3. Odd weather - Yes, having all four seasons in Fishers is awesome, but it also comes with downsides. I'm not kidding when I say today it could be snowing, and tomorrow it could be 65 degrees. Dang weather, just make up your mind already!

4. No mountains (or oceans) - Central Indiana is a fairly flat state, so around here you just get fields. If you want to go to the mountains (or ocean) you've got to drive south and/or east to get to the Appalachian mountains, Atlantic ocean, or Gulf of Mexico.

5. Roundabouts - The first time you drive through a roundabout it can be a harrowing experience (or maybe the first 10 times). But once you figure them out you realize they are good for keeping traffic flowing and people getting to where they are going (I'm a poet and didn't even know it)!
