MIP Techniques - How to perform a lateral shift of a resident safely!

Описание к видео MIP Techniques - How to perform a lateral shift of a resident safely!

How to perform a lateral shift of a resident safely is very important! Workers in the continuing care and senior supportive living industry sectors are prone to injuries from both resident handling and manual materials handling. Due to the higher risk of musculoskeletal injury, MIP or musculoskeletal injury prevention techniques are important. One of these situations where risk of injury is quite possible is the lateral shifting of a resident, moving them sideways in their bed.
When performing a lateral shift, the most common mistake a caretaker makes is the overuse of their arms, the arms should not extend. It is very important to perform the movement correctly to avoid twisting or bending your back.
Please take a few minutes to review this video, if necessary, more than once. In the video we provide you with some good demonstrations of how to properly move a resident laterally and minimize the risk of injury.
