Описание к видео STS-3 Third Shuttle Flight - Columbia, 1982 - Launch, Landing, Historical Footage & Narration, AI

Documentary about the STS-3 mission, entirely based on historical narration, mission audio, and footage. The full mission is covered, showing launch, remote manipulator arm tests, orbiter thermal tests, life onboard, experiments, landing, and results.

STS-3 was NASA's third Space Shuttle mission. Columbia launched on March 22, 1982, and landed eight days later on March 30, 1982. The mission, crewed by Jack R. Lousma and C. Gordon Fullerton, involved extensive orbital endurance testing of the shuttle, as well as numerous scientific experiments. In its payload bay, Columbia carried the DFI package and OSS-l which consisted of a number of instruments mounted on a Spacelab pallet, intended to obtain data on the near-Earth environment and the extent of contamination caused by the orbiter itself. STS-3 was the first shuttle launch with an unpainted external tank, and the only mission to land at the White Sands. The orbiter was forced to land at White Sands due to flooding at its originally planned landing site, Edwards Air Force Base.

The footage was AI upscaled (Topaz AI) on some segments, besides the usual color correction. The footage is usually shown in real speed and wide camera lens were corrected. Ambient audio was recreated based on historical elements. Sequences are shown in proper mission context as much as possible.

Historical narration (from mission commentary, NASA documentaries and progress reports) is used in an attempt to capture the feeling of the times. Language and attitudes should be seen in that context.
