"First of all, we are going to present to UNMOVIC the list of names of the scientists and engineers who participated in the past programmes and they can ask to meet any of them, of course, later on. And we think the purpose of the interview is to pass any gap, any misunderstanding and to explain any uncertainty, let us say, that there is no supporting document on it. This would help if the interviews, in the same procedure which had been conducted in the period 1991-1998 with the Special Commission.

"What can I say, it is just absolutely sort of lying for internal purposes. Maybe they have some election campaign or something like that. And, I have nothing to say more than that."

STORYLINE:

Iraq called the United Nations weapons inspections "intrusive and sometimes aggressive" on Thursday.

However, making the remarks in his news conference in Baghdad, Iraq's chief liaison to the UN Mission did not refer to any specific inspection.

General Hossam Mohammed Amin also said Iraq was preparing a list of scientists for inspectors to interview in their hunt for Iraqi weapons programmes.

Amin said the list of scientists who have worked on nuclear, chemical, biological and missile programmes would be handed over within "two or three days".

The Iraqi general also dismissed Israeli claims made earlier in the week that Iraq may be storing weapons of mass destruction in Syria. He said the accusation made by Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon was "lying for internal purposes. May be they have some election campaign or something like that," he said.
