In Far Cry 3 vestirete i panni di Jason Brody, giovane e atletico studente statunitense, in vacanza con alcuni amici nelle paradisiache Rook Islands. Il viaggio va a meraviglia, finché il gruppo non ha la sfortuna di incontrare Vaas, folle criminale a capo di una banda di pirati che cattura i ragazzi per ottenere un sontuoso riscatto e alimentare il mercato degli schiavi.
Dopo essere stato torturato fisicamente e psicologicamente, Jason scappa dalla prigionia con l'aiuto di suo fratello Grant, un abile ex soldato. La fuga è rocambolesca e finisce piuttosto male, con il protagonista che si ritrova solo e malandato in compagnia di un eccentrico individuo di nome Dennis, impegnato a tatuargli strane figure sul braccio sinistro e desideroso di iniziarlo alla misteriosa "via del guerriero", unico modo a suo dire di ottenere la forza necessaria per uccidere Vaas e liberare gli altri prigionieri. Inizia così la discesa di Jason in un turbine di pazzia e violenza, che lo trascinerà sempre più verso il fondo.
La narrativa in Far Cry 3 si basa quasi del tutto sulla follia e sulle sue tante forme. Ogni personaggio principale del gioco, ogni elemento fondamentale della trama, è costruito su un qualche tipo di pazzia o eccentricità. L'idea è riuscita, anche perché gli sceneggiatori hanno voluto puntare principalmente sulla caratterizzazione dei tanti individui di spicco che popolano le Rook Island, piuttosto che su una trama superlativa. Alcuni colpi di scena sono piuttosto telefonati, e Ubisoft poteva forse usare meglio gli elementi mistico/magici dell'ambientazione, ma complessivamente la campagna riesce a catturare il giocatore, rafforzata da cattivi di prima categoria e da un ritmo serrato delle missioni primarie. Un chiaro esempio di ottimo sfruttamento del setting ai fini della narrativa.

In Far Cry 3 play the role of Jason Brody, a young and athletic American student on vacation with some friends in paradise Rook Islands. The trip goes perfectly, until the group has the misfortune to meet Vaas, criminally insane at the head of a band of pirates who capture the boys to get a sumptuous food and ransom the slave market.
After being tortured physically and psychologically, Jason escapes from prison with the help of his brother Grant, a skilled former soldier. The flight is incredible and ends pretty bad, with the protagonist finds himself alone and run down in the company of an eccentric individual named Dennis, committed to tatuargli strange figures on the left arm and eager to introduce him to the mysterious "way of the warrior", the only way he said to get the strength needed to kill Vaas and free the other prisoners. The idea was successful, partly because the writers wanted to focus mainly on the characterization of many prominent individuals who populate the Rook Island, rather than on a superb plot. Some twists are quite telefonati, and perhaps Ubisoft could make better use of the elements mystical / magical the setting, but overall the campaign is able to capture the player, reinforced by bad first-class workmanship and a fast pace of the primary missions. A clear example of good use of the setting for the narrative.
