With half of the world's central banks experimenting to some degree with Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), it is important to understand the core features of the proposed currency.

In terms of the currency itself, it must be easily convertible to other forms of currency (cash, commercial bank deposits) at par as well as be as convenient to use as cash. Otherwise, it most likely would not be adopted by the Populus.

The system and infrastructure used to support a potential CBDC must be secure from cyber attacks, especially for one that is general purpose and used by individuals and businesses. Not only that, but the settlement process must be instant or near instant so that it can be available by the end users easily and efficiently. A very important thing to keep in mind is that such a currency must be able to scale and handle a very large number of transactions to maintain liquidity throughout the global financial system. We have learned the hard way what happens when there is a liquidity freeze....
