TOEFL Writing Template Task 2 - How to Write the Body Paragraph

I show you how you can write the body paragraph for task 2 of TOEFL Writing and get a high TOEFL Writing score. Throughout the video I will tell you TRICKS for writing the body that helped me score 30 in TOEFL Writing. I am going to tell you what you should write about in your body paragraph, what structure you should use, and we will do an EXAMPLE together.

In the independent task of the TOEFL writing section you need to write an essay. This essay should consist of an introduction, a body paragraph and a conclusion. It is very important that your TOEFL essay has a specific form – this is what will make you score high in TOEFL Writing. Regarding the body this means two things. First, the body should contain all elements that are necessary to support your thesis you made in the introduction of your TOEFL essay. Second, you should present these elements appropriately. I tell you how you can write a body paragraph which will get you a really high score in the independent task in TOEFL Writing. Practice writing the body several times to succeed in your TOEFL essay! 1) WHAT SHOULD YOU WRITE ABOUT?
Remember, in the last video you set out your thesis in the introduction of your TOEFL essay. This means that you answered the question by stating your opinion. Now you have to say more about why you think like that. Why do you answer this question in this way? Why do you have this opinion?
There must be a reason for that, and this is what you need to talk about in the body of your TOEFL essay. You need to state your reasons and elaborate on them. This means that your body paragraph must convince the reader that you are right.

2) BODY PARAGRAPH STRUCTURE
To make your body convincing you must use a specific structure. Great news: you can always use the same structure regardless of the question. In the body you need to provide reasons for your thesis. This means you need to show why you think like that. After providing a reason you need to explain this reason. Your reasons cannot stand alone, they need a backup. You must explain what you mean by elaborating on your reasons, that is providing more details. After that you need to back up these reasons by providing examples. You should give an example from your personal experience to strengthen your point, to show the reader that your reason has a strong foundation. Use one paragraph for each reason that you provide. For example, if you give two reasons for your thesis, then write two paragraphs. Each paragraph contains a reason, an explanation, and an example.

3) BODY PARAGRAPH EXAMPLE
In the video we are doing an example (agree/disagree question) together. I show you how you should set out your reason, how you can explain it and how you can talk about your personal experience. When writing the body of your TOEFL essay always remember to use linking words throughout your body paragraph. Especially when starting a new paragraph, you must indicate that you introduce a new idea. An easy way to do this is to start you paragraphs with “First,…” and then you go on with “Second,…” when talking about your second reason, and “Third,…” in case you want to add a third reason. This gives your body a clear structure and will make you score high because that is what the examiners are looking for.
