Every ten years, the U.S. redraws the lines that decide who represents us in Congress — a process called redistricting. But in 2025, Texas broke the pattern, redrawing its maps early, and now California voters will face a similar question this November.

Proposition 50 would toss out the maps created by California’s independent redistricting commission and hand that power back to the Legislature — a move supporters say restores accountability, and opponents warn could open the door to gerrymandering.

Tonight, KIXE is breaking down what’s at stake, what Prop 50 really does, and how it could reshape the way Californians choose their representatives.
