🗺️ About the route:

I backpacked alone in Grand Teton National Park and Jedediah Smith Wilderness August 5-10 2025. I created this 49 mile loop that starts at the end of North Leigh creek road, entering the park from the west side. It traverses the northern crest of the Tetons, farther north than the popular Teton Crest trail, and is all off-trail up on the crest. Millions of people visit the park every year, but few people enter from the west side and even fewer ever attempt a route like this. I didn't see a single person until reaching the summit of Table mountain on day 4 and had amazing views of Grand Teton the whole way there. I did get a permit to do this hike from the wilderness center, and the ranger mentioned he had never seen a permit like this before :) always exciting to discover seldom seen locations in such a popular area.
