(9 Nov 2013) US Secretary of State John Kerry was preparing for a third continuous day of nuclear talks with Iran on Saturday, as a spokesperson for the European Union's foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said progress was being made in the negotiations.
Speaking before the talks got underway, Michael Mann said that "since about eight o'clock this morning there has been further contacts between the different delegations, and these contacts will continue during the morning."
"There has been, clearly, progress but, like in all these things, it's always a bit more complicated than people think. We're working very hard and intensively to move things forward," he added.
The diplomats hope to narrow gaps in search of a deal that would offer Iran sanctions relief in exchange for proving its atomic ambitions are peaceful.
On Saturday morning, security was tight at the luxury Geneva hotel where the talks are taking place.
A senior US official said Kerry and Ashton are meeting separately there, before being joined by Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif.
On Friday, the trio met for five hours.
Russia, Germany and France's foreign ministers will also be participating in the talks.
The negotiations appear to have made some progress in a major diplomatic push despite fierce opposition from Israel and uncertainty in the US Congress.
