Hot Springs, NC to Erwin, TN
Using an Airbnb as our base camp
Day hiking in sections for 6 days
Completed 71.8 miles

Day one
Allen Gap to Tanyard Gap 8.9 miles Southbound, Staged a vehicle at Tanyard, and got an 8:00 am shuttle to Allen Gap. Hiked back to Tanyard Gap. Stayed the night at Airbnb in Erwin, TN

Day two (originally planned as an overnighter)
Allen Gap to Devil Fork Gap 21.3 miles Northbound, Staged a vehicle at Devil Fork and shuttled to Allen Gap. Hiked northbound back to Devil Fork. Stayed the night at Airbnb in Erwin, TN

Day three
Sam’s Gap to Devil’s Fork Gap 8.7 miles Southbound, Hubby shuttled us to and from trailheads. Stayed the night at Airbnb in Erwin, TN

Day four
Sam’s Gap to Spivey Gap 13.4 miles Northbound, Hubby shuttled us to and from trailheads. Stayed the night at Airbnb in Erwin, TN

Day five
Spivey Gap to Erwin, TN 11.1 miles Northbound, Martin shuttled us to and from the trailheads. Stayed the night at Airbnb in Erwin, TN

Day six
Indian Grave Gap to Erwin, TN 8.4 miles Southbound, Martin shuttled us to and from the trailheads. Stayed the night at Airbnb in Erwin, TN

For those new to our channel, we are hiking the Appalachian Trail for our sweet mama. She once said, "One day I'll hike the Appalachian Trail" but her one day never came. She was taken too soon by Early Onset Alzheimer's. Now we hike the trail for her. Our hope is to advocate for women to live their dreams. There is something healing about being on the trail.

As author Megan Devine said, “Some things cannot be fixed, they can only be carried. The trees will not ask, ‘How are you really?’ and the wind does not care if you cry. There is a lot to be said about being in places that don’t need anything from you.”

Hiking has become our refuge.

We hope by sharing our journey that it will motivate others, as we stand as a witness to honor our Mother’s legacy.
