In this episode of DJs BrewTube I review yet another imperial pumpkin ale Flying Dog The Fear Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Flying Dog The Fear Imperial Pumpkin Ale is an Imperial Pumpkin Ale that clocks in at, 9.0% ABV. Flying Dog describes The FearImperial Pumpkin Ale as:

"Why is there only one time of year -- as goblins, ghouls, and ghosts frolic on front lawns -- when we embrace THE FEAR? At all other times, THE FEAR dominates us, controls us, and prevents us from greatness. What is there to THE FEAR? Disagreement? Criticism? Humiliation? Whatever THE FEAR is that consumes you, embrace it, along with this Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Only then will the true artist in you rise up.."

All this sounds really great. I guess? Lets see if this one lives up to this unique description. Enjoy the review..... Written review follows:

Flying Dog The Fear Imperial Pumpkin Ale WRITTEN REVIEW:

A- Flying Dog The Fear Imperial Pumpkin Ale pours a dark brown verging on black color with a 1.5 finger head of tight kaki bubbles that leave a nice lacing on the inside of the glass as you drink it down. When swirled plenty of alcohol legs drop down like tears inside the glass.

S- Hello hops. Where were you before in other pumpkin beers? Next comes the nutmeg, all spice, cinnamon, clove, ginger that you expect from a pumpkin ale. This is all backed up by roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. The aroma is a cross between a pumpkin ale and a black IPA.

T- The taste follows the nose and there is a nice balance and interplay between the hops sweetness, roasted notes and spices. Very tasty. The alcohol is hidden very well and like the smell, the spices aren't too overpowering.

M- Medium bodied, this beer has some substance to it which adds to the complexity. Light tart carbonation gently pricks as it goes down. No alcohol heat was detected n the mouth but a bit in the chest.

O- Flying Dog The Fear Imperial Pumpkin Ale is made unique by its roast and hop bitterness really separates this beers from other pumpkin ales. This is really bitter and for serious beer lovers that can enjoy the bitterness in this. Give it a go, its a nice oasis in the land of mostly super sweet pumpkin beer.
