A new investigation found Rhode Island's Department of Children, Youth and Families has repeatedly violated federal law.

Federal prosecutors said Monday that the state warehoused children in a psychiatric hospital, sometimes for more than a year.

The years-long federal probe found DCYF left hundreds of children in a psychiatric hospital after staff recommended that they be discharged.

Federal investigators say this was done in place of the state providing them they care they needed.
