About the song:
"When Federico came up with this track, it immediately felt striking—simple, yet ethereal and grounded. That bass line, with his now-signature delay, was really… something. We just added a hypnotic drum pattern to give it more drive, and synths to support the underlying tension and dreamlike atmosphere.
But what struck me wasn’t just the song’s aesthetic—it was the title. Although I tried not to dwell on it by goofily calling the track Dreams Are Massages—which always earned me a smiling “It’s Messages, f**k you” from Federico—it kept bringing back an intense recurring dream. Maybe more of a nightmare. One that’s haunted me again and again since I was 15...
In a French international airport, I’m facing a glass wall opening onto a bookstore. On the other side stands a young blond woman. She has no distinct face, but I know I know her deeply. I try to speak to her, but she’s behind the glass. I tap—nothing. I try harder and harder, hitting the glass with my hand, trying to get her attention—“Hey, I’m here! Look!!” Still nothing. No reaction at all. I start to panic. I punch the glass. Still no response. Things quickly spiral. I’m throwing myself at it, over and over, covering it with blood, seriously injuring myself. And finally—by pure chance—she notices me. She looks up with a mix of astonishment, sorrow, and sadness, and comes to the glass. My face is leaning against it, and she gently places her head next to mine. It’s quiet. Peaceful.
Those who know will understand why this could feel like a disturbing kind of “premonition.” So yes—even if it’s all coincidence—Dreams Are Messages.
For the video, I had in mind a slightly less violent idea, using footage by Brian Santos and Ana Serrats. I wanted to suggest a kind of dreamy duet involving two women—evoking conflict without being too specific, leaving things open-ended. Are they the same person? Are they connected? Are they rivals? I followed a precise narrative while editing, but when I showed the video to friends, each of them had their own, equally valid interpretation. So I’ll keep the real story to myself."
