Fronted by siblings David and Katie Pope, gloomy Glaswegians The Just Joans have been a cult presence on the indiepop scene for over a decade since their Indietracks debut in 2008. Noted for their mischievous lyrics, tender melodies and overwhelming Scottishness, the band were best described as “the missing link between The Magnetic Fields and The Proclaimers.” Having completed the long journey from shambling two-piece to accomplished sextet, these misanthropic musicians with Britpop soft spots have excelled since joining Fika Recordings in 2017. Their latest offering on the label, ‘The Private Memoirs and Confessions of The Just Joans’ – a smorgasbord of misery, longing and everyday angst – was dubbed ‘the best new album of 2020’ on its release (ten days into the year).

Instead of linking to their Bandcamp page, The Just Joans have asked that we share fundraising links for BLM UK (https://uk.gofundme.com/f/ukblm-fund) and the Midland Railway - Butterley (below).

This video is presented as part of #IndietracksAtHome, a weekend of virtual events to bring together some of the artists, DJs and workshops that would have featured at Indietracks Festival 2020 (http://www.indietracks.co.uk).

Indietracks Festival is a charity fundraiser for the Midland Railway - Butterley, a heritage railway in the Derbyshire countryside. The railway relies on visitors for its income and has been closed for three months due to the coronavirus outbreak. You can support them by buying a compilation from a past edition of Indietracks Festival (https://indietracks.bandcamp.com/) or sending them a Paypal donation (https://www.paypal.com/gb/fundraiser/....
