That’s exactly what we did on our Delhi to Agra trip! The ticket for Taj Express cost us 400 rupees, so our challenge was simple: not to spend more than ₹400 on food for the entire day in Agra.

Here’s how the journey of Backpacker Indian went:

✨ Delhi to Agra (Taj Express)

No pantry car onboard, so no food during the 3-hour train journey.

Train ticket cost: ₹400 → Our food budget was also ₹400!


✨ Agra Food Journey Begins

First Stop: Shri Ram Sweets for crispy samosas and delicious bhandara-style aloo poori. Perfect start to the day!

After exploring the Agra Metro and visiting the Taj Mahal, we satisfied our hunger with veg chowmein at a Taj Restaurant (run by Govt. of India). A little luxury in our budget trip because of the chilled AC!

Later, we explored Sadar Bazar Agra – famous for its street food. From Dahi Gujiya, Boat Shaped Golgappe to Basket chaat, everything under 200 rupees. Since, we were on a tight food budget. Here we exausted our Food Budget.


✨ Return Journey (Agra to Delhi)

Back on the Taj Express, our budget revived with 400 rupees but good hygienic food under such budget was still a task… but thanks to Meal on Train by RailRestro, we enjoyed fresh and tasty meals delivered right to our train seats. 🚉🍛
